About the Witch-King’s Sword

In Tolkien’s world the Nazgûl – also called the Black Riders, Ringwraiths or simply the Nine – were once mortal men who accepted Rings of Power and fell under Sauron’s control. They became his most feared servants, with their stronghold at Minas Morgul on the edge of his realm. Their leader was the Witch-King, Sauron’s second-in-command through the Second and Third Ages.

The Nazgûl first appeared around S.A. 2251 and served Sauron’s armies for the next 1200 years. When Sauron was defeated by the Last Alliance of Elves and Men they vanished for a time, only to return when he rose again at Dol Guldur. The blade carried by the Witch-King of Angmar is the Nazgûl sword reproduced here.
