Squall Leonhart Gunblade from Final Fantasy
Squall Leonhart’s Gunblade
The Revolver gunblade belongs to Squall Leonhart, hero of the eighth Final Fantasy – a bold young man with brown hair and pale blue eyes who focuses on his mission above all else. People are drawn to his cool demeanour, though he barely seems to notice, and in battle he uses his gunblade to unleash powerful, tricky combos. In Dissidia he fights for Cosmos, goddess of harmony, helping her warriors defeat the forces of Chaos and save their world.

The Character
Squall is a young, reserved SeeD mercenary. Others see him as cold and focused – until he begins to question the way he lives his life. His gunblade is one of the most famous weapons in Final Fantasy, and he later rises to the rank of Commander.
He has tousled brown hair and pale blue eyes, and usually wears a black leather bomber jacket with a fur-trimmed collar, a white shirt, dark trousers with three interlocking belts, and dark boots and gloves. A silver stud in his left ear and a silver chain with a Griever pendant and matching ring complete the look – the only exceptions being his SeeD or cadet uniform, worn only when he must. In flashbacks to childhood he wears an orange striped shirt and jeans. His gunblade of choice is the Revolver, in a customised version, and a duel with his rival Seifer Almasy leaves the pair with mirror-image scars across their faces.
History
Final Fantasy VIII was released on the PlayStation in 1999 and on Windows PCs in 2000, and arrived on the PlayStation Network as a PSone Classic in 2009. Developed and published by Square as the eighth main title, it dropped magic-point spellcasting and was the first in the series to consistently use realistically proportioned characters.
The story follows a group of young mercenaries belonging to SeeD, whose mission is to stop a sorceress from the future from compressing time. Development began in 1997, during the English localisation of Final Fantasy VII. Series composer Nobuo Uematsu wrote the score, and for the first time the theme was a vocal song – “Eyes on Me”, performed by Faye Wong. The game was praised by critics and sold superbly: readers of the Japanese magazine Famitsu voted it the 22nd-best game ever, and within 13 weeks of release it had earned more than US$50 million, making it the fastest-selling Final Fantasy until the multi-platform Final Fantasy XIII. Like earlier entries, it has three main modes of play: the world map, the field map and the battle screen.
