This is the Keyblade fans love most – the first one Sora wields in Kingdom Hearts. Keyblades are the essential weapons of the heroes fighting the darkness, letting their wielders pull off dazzling, magic-charged moves. Director Tetsuya Nomura originally imagined a chainsaw-like weapon before reshaping it into the Keyblade we know. The story begins when King Mickey sees the worlds being consumed by darkness; his own Keyblade long since lost, he sets out to find its new wielder and enlist him to save the worlds. In the game, players upgrade their Keyblade by attaching different keychains, unlocking ever more powerful forms.

Sora in Kingdom Hearts

Sora is the series’ best-known Keyblade wielder, and his ability to use it is a central plot point in the first game. He was originally conceived as a young lion-human hybrid carrying a chainsaw-like weapon with a lion’s-head keychain, and his outfit still shares many elements with Mickey’s as a nod to the collaboration between Disney and Square.

Keyblades lie at the heart of the struggle between Darkness and Light, and Sora has used more keychains than anyone else in the series, all transforming his original blade, the Kingdom Key. Nomura designed Sora during discussions between Disney and Square about who the hero should be, sketching him repeatedly until Disney approved. Sora became Nomura’s favourite creation, and he pushed for the character to lead the story despite his youth. Sora is voiced by Academy Award nominee Haley Joel Osment in English and Miyu Irino in Japanese.

Over the series Sora becomes immensely powerful – able to defeat over a thousand Heartless in one go, hold his own against master swordsmen like Cloud, Leon and Sephiroth, overcome Keyblade masters such as the Lingering Will and Riku, and even defeat gods like Hades and Jafar in his genie form. His Drive Forms unlock even more of his hidden strength with the help of his party, and after defeating Roxas he unlocks Final Form.

Early on, though, Sora is almost helpless without the Keyblade – even a Shadow Heartless takes countless hits with his Wooden Sword, and before leaving Destiny Islands he cannot harm them at all. In time he learns to beat enemies without it, in Anti Form or using Flowmotion and spells.

This piece sits within our Kingdom Hearts swords. Collectors who choose it often go for the Sora Keyblade Life Size Metal Replica From Kingdom Hearts and the Kingdom Hearts Sora Keyblade Black Edition too.
