About Éowyn’s Sword

Born in Edoras, Éowyn lost her parents young and was left caring for her uncle, King Théoden, whose health was failing under the growing influence of Saruman and Gríma Wormtongue. Strong and spirited, she trained as a shieldmaiden and was said to outmatch many of the Rohirrim in skill. She carried a full-size sword of nearly three feet from tip to hilt, its bronze guard and pommel shaped in honour of Rohan’s horses to suit her smaller hand. The grip had a raised central section of three bronze rings – a style of fuller typical of the royal swords of Rohan.

Defying her uncle, Éowyn rode in disguise with the Rohirrim to the Pelennor Fields, accompanied by the hobbit Merry. There she achieved true heroism by slaying the Witch-King and his fell beast, though she was gravely wounded. Healed by King Elessar, she put aside her longing for glory in battle and found love with Faramir.
