About Orcrist

In Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012), Orcrist is discovered alongside Sting. It is a single-edged blade with a curved pommel and bears a resemblance to Hadhafang, the sword carried by Arwen and Elrond in the Lord of the Rings trilogy – the key difference being that Hadhafang’s blade is curved, while Thorin’s is noticeably straighter. On screen it proves its strength by easily turning aside a savage blow from the Goblin King himself.

About Glamdring

Glamdring first appears when Gandalf, Bilbo and the Dwarves run into the trolls Bert, William and Tom. The trolls capture Bilbo and the Dwarves, but Gandalf tricks them into staying out until sunrise, turning them to stone. In the trolls’ cave the company finds Glamdring, Orcrist and Sting. Struck by the sword’s beauty and its mysterious inscription, Gandalf claims Glamdring for himself – and with Elrond’s help the runes are translated as “Foe-hammer”.
